💡PROFILE
Prajit Nair is an Engineer turned IAS officer who secured Rank 87 in his UPSC exam in his third attempt and now working as a bureaucrat under the role of the assistant collector in Maharashtra's Dhanu region.
He never believed in the Engineering degree he held; curiosity about various subjects drove him to a career as an IAS officer.
🧠INSIGHTS
We were very excited going into this recording. None of us had any idea about UPSC exams or what an IAS officer does, so the entire discussion was a learning experience. The funny part when we were making the “LIFE IN DJ” video back in 2014, we were asking people in the college about their plan - MS or MBA? Prajit said none.
🤕Biggest challenges in being an IAS officer - Prajit says some of the biggest challenges to being an IAS officer has to do with your own biases. Coming from a big city like Mumbai, Prajit had to change his mindset when dealing with problems in rural Maharashtra. Another one was the sharp learning curve associated with the job.
😄On the simple joys of life - Prajit talks about finding the simple joys of life. Most city-dwellers are in a race. Competing at every stage of their life. Are they really happy? As Naval puts it, “Desire is the contact you sign to be unhappy”.
Prajit has seen villagers living a simple life and being happy. If they can’t get something done in the 24 hours of the day, they have another 24 hours the next day.
✅Things you need to become an IAS officer - He talks about becoming an IAS officer is more about the attitude. You need to be curious about a lot of things and have a deep sense of empathy.
